My devices don't see each other
Both devices need to be on the same local network, and the network has to allow multicast, which some guest and office Wi-Fi networks block. A firewall on either device must also let Sintona through on these ports:
| Port | Protocol | Used for |
|---|---|---|
| 45678 | UDP | Audio |
| 45679 | UDP multicast (224.0.0.167) | Finding devices |
| 45680 | TCP | Starting an audio stream |
| 45681 | TCP | Keyboard, mouse and clipboard |
To control a computer that doesn't show up, you can add it by its IP address under This device.
Windows: another device can't connect, or some windows ignore input
The installer adds Windows Firewall rules for Sintona's ports. If you use a different firewall, allow the ports above there too.
Windows doesn't let other apps type into windows running as administrator, such as Task Manager, installers and permission prompts, unless Sintona also runs as administrator.
Linux: sharing the keyboard and mouse asks for a permission
On Wayland, apps can't capture the keyboard and mouse directly, so Sintona needs one-time access to your input devices. The .deb and .rpm packages set this up when they install. With the AppImage, clickGrant input access in the app; it asks for your password.
Android: letting another device control my phone
In Sintona, open This device and turn on Let other devices control this one. Then tap Open Accessibility, read what the service does, and turn onSintona remote control.
For typing, switch to the Sintona Keyboard while the phone is being controlled. Sintona only acts on input from devices you approved, and a notification shows while it's being controlled.
My banking app won't open while remote control is on
Many banking apps refuse to run while an app's accessibility service is switched on. Turn offLet other devices control this one in Sintona: the service is removed until you turn it back on, and the rest of Sintona keeps working.
How does pairing work?
The first time a device asks to control another, both screens show the same 6-digit code. Approve it on the device being controlled, and confirm the code on the one controlling it. Approved devices are listed underAllowed devices, where you can remove them at any time.
Is my audio, typing or clipboard sent anywhere?
No. Everything travels directly between your own devices on your network, encrypted, and never through a server. Sintona has no analytics. See the privacy policy.
Do all my devices need the same version?
Devices only work together when they run compatible versions of Sintona, so update them together.
